a note from the artist

Somewhere on the North Shore of Oahu is community with a never before seen protector.  A many faced sentinel stands against all the wrath of the ocean. Not the wrath of winter surf nor the gentle creep of the rising ocean has harmed any of the shore line in this community.  I came upon this area, stumbling and slipping on slick boulders as the sun set.  With the generosity characteristic of Hawaiians, I was invited off the shore and allowed to cross local property in leu of the shore’s wet, precarious footing. After sizing me up for a minute, T - the property's owner, told me about the chief defender stone.  I’ve never taken a portrait of a rock before, much less an enchanted one, so I set back out across the rocks with T's blessing as twilight began to stretch its blanket over the sky from the east.  I settled low enough into the rocks that waves wet my tripod and my bottom.  Crouched as I was I could see pastels of nautical sunset and prepared to use a long exposure to capture motion in the waves and soak the sensor with more light from the horizon.  The chief in the center of the portrait, dripping wet with the exertion of his charge, is the only face that I was aware of at the time. Now, I see as many as eight faces in the stone and have been told of as many as fifteen!  How many do you see?

About the prints: I print on a premium substrate that is unparalleled in depth and luminosity. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer Tabacchino and other handmade framing options. Available starting  20”x40” 30”60” 36”x72” and custom sizes. Below are examples in 4” frames with and without liners. More arrangements are available. Liners are available in Black, White, Beige. See FRAMES in the menu above for more frames and liner options.
