Safe at Harbor
Thoughts from shore,
If ever a journey were to have beginnings it was surely by leaving somewhere behind. Leaving is what this story is about. Standing where I am, watching this small schooner leave out, I realized that the stories never follow the people left behind. Our story isn’t harrowing; it’s everyday. Our struggle is safe harbor vs ocean gale. Left behind, our struggle is to give wind to that little voice that begs, “explore,” from a shadowed nook of our minds; to strike out security for the chance to add a legacy to you lineage and brand your soul with the badge of bravery or to hold fast to shore. I am a vessel, like this ship, and a ship is safe in harbor, but that is not what it was made for.
