I call these “cloud islands.” When I consider the comfortable isolation I seek in photographs, I can’t imagine anything more singular than a mountain peak made an island by an ocean of clouds. Being alone on a peak above the clouds is among my favorite things to experience. The afternoon I captured the edge of the west peak of Mt Olympus was spent continuously engulfed by clouds sweeping across Hurricane Ridge. Pockets of light traveled fast over the ridge, exposing me to the mountain ranges and, occasionally, exposing the mountain ranges to my lens in turn.

"OMG, It looks like a painting!" Is a phrase I hear often when sharing work and, this time at least, I'm not even a little bit offended. Implications aside, there was something about that evening on Hurricane Ridge and there is something about this photograph that makes me feel like it's been painted. The ocean of clouds seems to break on the west peak of Mt Olympus as if it were one of Washington's sea stacks just offshore. It makes me think of how life is fluid. Time is fluid. Even the earth is fluid when viewed on large enough time scales. Everything is in a constant state of becoming.

About the prints: I print on a premium substrate that is unparalleled in depth and luminosity. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer many framing options on this website or you can collect the artwork and have it framed at your preferred framer. I recommend From The Beginning to be framed in a narrow black or brown frame with three to five inches of white space. More arrangements are available. Liners are available in Black, White, Beige.
