Wandering Star
a note from the artist
We turn ourselves into solitary objects hurtling through a space widened by the perception of our isolation. All the time thinking ourselves dull and cold and unseen while the universe observes us in awe of the spectacle we continue to be.
The more intimately I share the traumas and trials of my past the more I discover how common some of the most trying moments and experiences of my life have been. Where I expected to be an outcast I discovered a community of souls drifting past each other like dark stars in the night. A community of people who are so focused on hiding their pains in fear that their light might be too ugly that they hide their brilliance and miss the brightness in others.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
Mount Rainier and the forests of Rainier National Park glow beneath the light of a rising half-moon. I climbed to a nook on the way to High Rock Lookout in the dead of night to arrange this composition. Once I had my camera focused on Mt Rainier and my settings dialed in, I settled down in the chilly night for a long wait. The photograph of the landscape of Rainier and it’s adjacent mountains was captured with an extremely long exposure when the moon was just right. Several hours later, Neowise rose above a halo of predawn light. That photograph was an easy twenty seconds. I applied the photographs to each other during postproduction to reveal the moment as I experienced it.

About the prints: I print on a premium substrate that is unparalleled in depth and luminosity. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer many framing options on this website or you can collect the artwork and have it framed at your preferred framer. I recommend Wandering Star be framed in a narrow black or brown frame with three to five inches of white space. More arrangements are available. Liners are available in Black, White, Beige. See FRAMES in the menu above for more frames and liner options.
