FINE ART & PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THE SPACES YOU CHERISH
There are so many choices for art out there it can be difficult to decide where to buy your art. First and foremost: I always say, buy the art you love. I'll attempt to make it easier for you to do just that by providing you seven distinct benefits to acquiring art directly from me, the artist. Conversely, these are also seven reasons for not collecting art from an art gallery in today’s day and age. Feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have questions.
1. Learn about the artwork you’re acquiring directly from the artist: No one knows more about their art than the artist. Much of the art on my website has detailed captions that build on the story I am sharing. Many gallery reps know ‘just enough’ to mention the work and its details. Speak to the artist and discover the heart and the why of the work. You can contact me at any time to learn more about my artwork. I'm willing to hop on a call at any time or answer as many emails as it takes to make you comfortable with your decision.
Also, working directly with the artist gives you a chance to really become a part of the art, creating a relationship and friendship beyond the simple exchange of goods for money. In my experience, almost all of my collectors have become personal friends. Whether that connection is on Facebook or Instagram it’s been great learning about the people who collect my works. You can’t connect with artists through a gallery who often acts as a barrier (to protect their sales) instead of a connector.
2. Gallery-quality art without the gallery overhead: It costs a small fortune to run a brick and mortar art gallery. Those costs are passed onto you the art buyer and me, the artist. If you are intending to support the artists with your art acquisitions you should know that artists generally walk away with less than 40% of the sale. That includes online art marketplaces. The rest goes to production cost and gallery commissions. It is possible to buy gallery-quality art for less than gallery prices. I produce my fine art photography prints on the best materials from the best print labs available. Even with this super high-end production, I am able to offer the works without marking-up to cover the cost of participating in a gallery space.
3. Know that you’re acquiring art from a real person: I'm a real person with a six-year-old son. I live in Bellevue, WA, and I drive a Jeep. Photography has been a part of my life for nearly 10 years now. My art was originally about nature. Now it's about me and my experiences, introspection, duality, and beauty. That story is expressed in all the stories and captions created with each artwork in my portfolio. You can read about me, my accomplishments, see my TEDx Talk, and read an overview about the different bodies of work I have on my Artist Page.
4. I'm here to serve you: My goal is to help you acquire art, not sell you art. Sometimes that might even involve referring you to another artist if I don't have what you need. I always say, buy the art you love. Investing in art is a commitment so I want to make sure that you are 100% comfortable with your decision. I will be here to help guide you through this process. This includes creating home-renders to show you what the art looks like in your home and complete transparency throughout the entire art selection process.
As an individual artist, I can be significantly more flexible than a gallery owner could be. I produce all the work to order. Each work is limited edition and created specifically for your space. I help with custom sizing & framing and chose the right substrate and glazing for your home if there are special circumstances, just as an overabundance of direct sunlight. An art gallery can only sell you what’s on their walls and has litter interest in solving your creative problems.
Actually, last week I teamed up with a collector to gift wrap a 6’ box of art and give it as a present. It was a great time, check it out here.
5. Low-pressure sales environment: Buying art from a physical gallery can be an intimidating experience. You browse at your leisure but know that a pair of eyes are on you at all times. The more financially-successful galleries have high-pressure salespeople that can be overbearing and manipulative. None of those things apply when acquiring art from me. Buy the art you love, is what I always say to collectors and if my work is not perfect, I happily share my friends’ portfolios. Feel free to browse my landscape galleries or my Aria Collection at your leisure. I'm available for you whenever you need me but I won't know you're there unless you reach out and contact me.
6. Timely, personal responses & reasonable delivery times: I believe that art sales are a customer service business. I try to always put the customer first by responding back in a timely manner and following through on my promises. I work with professional print labs that can turn projects around within a reasonable time frame and provide you with regular updates as to shipping status. I expect to deliver art orders within 3-4 weeks of ordering. If my print labs can't deliver within a respectable time frame then I'll find another that can.
7. Photography + art: When you collect work from me you are getting more than just a photograph. Because I approach photography and photo editing with a painterly process and esthetic each piece is an original artwork. Other artists and photographers are not able to copy my work and you won’t find other work like it in the galleries or on the web.
